Financial support from the European Union (FEDER): 572.847,58€

Summary and Objectives of the Project:

The amount of sludge produced by industry in developed countries is currently very high and increasing, mainly resulting from the need to protect natural water resources from the pollutant load of liquid effluents. In fact, there are several industrial sectors (domestic WWTP, tannery, pulp and paper, textile, agroindustry, chemical industry, etc.) that are facing with the challenge of managing a waste that has always associated several problems.

This project focuses on the development and construction of a prototype sludge drying system capable of drastically reducing its moisture content by up to 20% if the application is for agricultural purposes, or up to 10% if the option is to energy recovery. In the case of sewage sludge, it should be noted that simultaneously with the reduction of humidity will be ensured hygienization, preservation of organic matter and minimization of problems associated with bad odors. In this way, transport costs will be drastically reduced, allowing for increased storage capacity and greater flexibility in the overall management of sludge in terms of final destination.

The drying system to be developed will be about 30% cheaper in terms of investment cost and will also have the advantage of using flexibly renewable energies (biomass, sludge, biogas and other hot gases possibly available in the industrial process). The drying system should be versatile to allow the use of drying adjuvants which minimize odors, with other industrial residues currently being targeted at the landfill (e.g., green liquor dregs from the pulp industry).

Description (targets, activities, results)

The present project aims to strengthen HRV's business capacity for internationalization by increasing its base and export capacity and increasing the specific qualification of its assets for this purpose. In particular, and through different international promotion actions, it will be possible to reinforce the presence of HRV in those markets where it is already present and to increase the number of markets (countries) to which it exports. These actions are intended to promote the company, its products and services, in order to bring more awareness to the brand / Group. It is also intended to gain new insights into several markets and lead to new partnerships in countries where HRV is already present and in new markets with pre-identified potential.
